About Science of singing director sharon sexton

WELCOME - I am Sharon Sexton, an award winning West End performer, qualified vocal coach and vocal rehabilitation specialist.

I am a tutor with The Voice College, London and also teach privately, online and in my home studio. 

I have been teaching voice for over twenty years, working with students of all ages and abilities, from young children, to seasoned professionals. 

Before graduating from the Voice Colelge with an Advanced Professional Dimploma in singing Teachig, I also studied classically at the Bel Canto School, and at DIT's Conservatory of Music. I also hold An Honours Degree in Speech and Drama, a Masters in Directing for Theatre and am currently studying for my qualification as a Vocal Rehabilitation Specialist Professional with Vocal Health Education UK.

I have been performing for a long time (ahem, 30 years+) and am passionate about working with others and sharing all that I have learned and studied. The hands-on experience I have as a performer, offers a unique perspective in the classroom, which I a truly grateful for.

I am a big believer that EVERYBODY who sings, should have the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of their voice, and have access to all the technical information, skills, techniques and support they need to reach their full vocal potential.

I am currently touring the UK playing the leading role of Sloane in the epic rock musical BAT OUT OF HELL. I was lucky enough to be hand picked by Jim Steinman to originate the role in 2017

I have taught singing all around the world, working as the Head Of Singing in ITW Dublin, The Gaiety School of Acting,  Head of Voice in SETS London, guest teaching in many third level musical theatre colleges throughout the UK and most recently, teaching singing at the Stage School Institute in Hamburg, one of the leading Musical theatre colleges in Europe.

I founded Science Of Singing in 2023 as place where I can consolidate all my teaching and rehabilitation work. Here I offer classes, short courses and frequently host webinars- where I get to share my knowledge and geek out on all things voice! 

Whether you are singing in a choir or are a seasoned professional - if you want to get a better understanding of YOUR instrument, how it works, how to strengthen it, maintain it and free it from tension with some tender loving care...you've come to the right place. 

Sharon has worked as a highly respected vocal coach and acting tutor for over 20 years in stage schools and vocational schools throughout the UK and Europe. She has acted as a voice coach on several professional theatrical productions and has prepared students for performances on both stage and screen, whilst also mentoring professional West End performers throughout long running West End shows.

She has successfully prepared students for examinations with LAMDA, Trinity,  The Irish Board of Speech and Drama and was an associate collaborator on the Musical Theatre Exam syllabus for the Leinster School of Music and Drama, Dublin.
